CBBC Talk

We had a talk from two people who worked at CBBC come to talk to us at college about their recent programming.

They discussed the difficulties they are facing recently as their target audience are more into watching mature animations such as Family Guy, South Park etc whilst they're still having to show animations that are targeted at around 8-13 year olds.

I didn't really enjoy the talk if I'm honest. If anything the woman who was presenting put me off working for CBBC all together as she seemed very patronising towards us and even her co-presenter, who was clearly below her in their careers.
She seemed to swear quite a bit during her presentation, which I thought was very unprofessional. It seemed as though it was an attempt to keep us interested in what she had to say. She needn't have done that as we were all interested in the company and what they had to say anyway.

I've never been a viewer of CBBC myself so I couldn't really relate to the presentation when they were discussing past and present programmes shown on the channel.
I have never really been a viewer of British animation, which CBBC is featuring less and less of in recent years. They're having to buy animations from foreign countries to try and keep the viewers enthralled.

Overall, the talk didn't really spur me on to want to work for CBBC. If anything it put me off to see how much they were struggling. With digital channels such as Cartoon Network, Nickelodeon etc, I can see why. Personally, I think they offer a lot better quality of animation.
